
Patan Academy of Health Sciences (PAHS), achieved a major medical milestone by performing its first-ever corneal transplant on the occasion of World Sight Day.
A medical team led by cornea specialist Dr. Anima Deshar successfully operated on a 63-year-old female patient suffering from Pseudophakic Bullous Keratopathy a condition causing corneal swelling and vision loss following artificial lens placement.

- Surgical Team: Led by Dr. Anima Deshar, assisted by ophthalmic staff Sangiruwa and Christy, with anesthesia administered via retrobulbar block by Dr. Sumit Singh Maharjan. Resident Dr. Prapti, Dr. Prabha, Dr. Priyanka, Dr Nisha and Pradeep Patel and departmental doctors also contributed in the surgery.
- Leadership & Vision: Department Head Dr. Ranjana Sharma, alongside Dr. Pawan Mahat and Dr. Nisha Shrestha Rajbhandari, spearheaded the effort to launch the transplant unit.
- Donor Support: The hospital expressed gratitude to the Nepal Eye Bank and donor families, emphasizing that eye donation is vital for restoring sight.
